A Story of Support That Helps Ensure Timely Care for One’s Health

Liubov Mykhailivna is 82 years old. She spent her entire life working at the water utility in the village of Kochetok. Today, she effectively lives alone: her son has passed away, and her daughter lives in Kharkiv and cannot always be nearby.

With age, she developed serious health issues — her heart condition requires constant attention, and her health occasionally worsens. In winter, her family doctor referred her for an examination at the central district hospital in Chuhuiv. However, cold weather, icy roads, and her physical condition made even leaving home risky, so she was unable to reach the hospital on her own.

In this situation, she reached out to a case manager from the Charitable Foundation “Source of Revival” (CFSR), who works within the project “Basic Social Support and Capacity Building of Social Service Centers in Communities.”

The case manager organized escorted support to the hospital, accompanying her to Chuhuiv where she visited a cardiologist, completed the necessary tests, and underwent an ECG and fluorography.

Based on the examination results, the doctor prescribed treatment. The case manager also explained how to access the state reimbursement program and helped her receive medications free of charge. All assistance was provided in a timely manner — exactly when it was most critical for her health. Now, Liubov Mykhailivna feels much better.

She notes that it was important for her to receive not only medical consultation, but also full support throughout the process — accompaniment between offices, assistance during the trip, and the opportunity to safely travel to another city and complete all necessary examinations.

Liubov Mykhailivna jokes: “If I received such support again, I might recover completely.”

This story highlights how important it is to have support and access timely medical care. Case management helps elderly people overcome barriers to accessing healthcare services and receive the assistance they need safely and on time.
